Evelyn C. Swaim

Evelyn Patterson Swaim was born September 24, 1921 in Cullman, Alabama. She passed away Thursday, November 1, 2012 at the age of 91. Evelyn was predeceased by her beloved husband of 25 years, Frank L. Swaim. Evelyn was an extraordinary woman with a great passion for life and family, and a true gift for hospitality. Her home was a warm, welcoming place, overflowing with joy, laughter, and homemade meals. A caring wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and a true friend to so many, she was happiest when surrounded by those she loved so dearly. Her loving, generous heart, and magnetic personality made her a role model to many, and her presence on earth will be truly missed by all who knew her. Evelyn is survived by her three children from her first marriage: Patricia Ann Trachy (Harry) of Gulf Breeze, FL, James Ralph Patterson (Jeanie) of Hoover, AL, and Kathy Jo Halbrooks (Tom) of Roswell, GA, as well as her six grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. Evelyn worked for 26 years in the Jefferson County court system. She began her career working for Juvenile Court (now Family Court), and retired from the County Clerk's Office, Civil Division, in 1978. Evelyn and Frank were active members of Shades Crest Baptist Church. She was a member of Women' Vista Club as well as many other various organizations. A heartfelt thanks goes to the staff at Mount Royal Towers for affirming Evelyn's worth each day she resided there. Also, Evercare Hospice provided an excellent monitoring program that benefited her physical/mental well being. Evelyn’s family will welcome visitors at Elmwood Funeral Home on Monday, November 5 from 10:30 to 11:30 am. The service will begin at 11:30 in the Chapel.
