Elizabeth Porter Martin

Elizabeth Cornish Porter Martin went to be with our Lord on Friday, March 31, 2023. Betty was born on February 29, 1932, in Birmingham, Alabama. She was a graduate of Ramsey High School and attended Auburn University.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde Henry and Sadie Gay Graves Porter. Her loving husband of 47 years, Roy Clifton Martin, Jr., brothers Warren Graves Porter (Carol) and Clyde Henry Porter Jr. (Ann), brother-in-law, Donald Knowlton Martin (Joyce).

She is survived by her son Roy Clifton Martin, III (Gerée). Her two grandchildren Ashley Elizabeth Martin Echols (Andy) and Porter Cole Martin (Madison), and two great-grandchildren Gracie Echols and Ella Martin and her twin sister Marguarite Porter Richards.

Nanny was the most loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She lived life abundantly and always carried the joy of the Lord in her heart and she will be greatly remembered for her sense of humor. She always cherished family time and loved making memories that lasted. She will be deeply missed, but we rejoice in the life that God gifted us through her.

A graveside service will be held at Elmwood Cemetery, Birmingham, Alabama on Thursday, April 6 at 10:00 AM, Johns-Ridout’s directing. Family and friends are asked to meet at Johns Ridout's Elmwood Chapel located at 800 Dennison Ave. SW Birmingham, Alabama 35211 by 9:45am and we will all process together down to the gravesite.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Trinity Counseling or Her Choice Birmingham Women’s Center, Birmingham, Alabama.
