She was born in Anniston, Alabama on May 10th,1938. She was a loving and devoted daughter, sister, wife, grandmother, mother-in-law, and friend. She was kind, sweet, supportive, and always helping someone in their time of need. To know her was to love her.
In 1957, she was a member of Walter Wellborn High School’s first graduating class, where she was a cheerleader and majorette.
She married Billy H. Berry of Ohatchee, Alabama on January 20th, 1958. They lived in Ohatchee until September of 1963 when they and their three children moved to Birmingham. She was baptized at Woodlawn Baptist Church and later moved her letter to First Baptist Church of Center Point.
Dot went to work for Burtons Flowers in the East Lake area from 1968 until January 1970. In 1971, Dot and her husband moved to the Huffman Roebuck area where they opened Center Point Florist in late 1972. She faithfully served the Center Point community for over thirty years. Her most cherished times were creating arrangements for Huffman, Erwin, and Banks High School proms and homecomings.
The family florist is where many of life’s lessons were learned early and often. Hard work and a determination to serve the community in life’s happiest and saddest moments. As a florist, she was able to share in many special moments with many families. Their weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, Valentine’s and Mother’s Day, homecomings and proms.
She was involved with her five children at East Lake Park, Wahouma Ballpark, L.M. Smith School, and Huffman High School.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Billy H. Berry; father (John Kelley), mother (Mary Kelley Higginbotham), stepfather (Robert Higginbotham), brother (Charles Kelley), sons (Ron and Clint Berry) and infant son Kenneth (Kaleen’s twin at birth).
She is survived by her son, Brian Berry (Indiana); daughter, Kaleen Riley (Dr. Allen Riley, Trussville, AL); daughter and Clint’s twin sister, Christy Belanger (Hugo Belanger, Mascouche, QC); 7 grandchildren (4 grandsons and 3 granddaughters) and 2 great grandsons along with many nieces and nephews and extended family.
Burial will be held at First Baptist Church of Ohatchee’s Cemetery. Visitation will beat Ridout's Trussville Chapel on December 16, 2024 from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM.
The family expresses true heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to the staff of Greenbriar at the Altamont for the past 6 years and to the nurses from SouthernCare New Beacon Hospice for their devoted care over the past few months.
