Doris Maddox, age 84, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, September 3, surrounded by her loving family. Doris was born in DeKalb County, Alabama, and married the love of her life, Henry Maddox, in 1946. Following a short stint in Detroit, they moved back to Alabama, to Birmingham, where they raised two children and she earned her master of cosmetology license in the late 1960s. She worked as a hair stylist for the next 40 years in the Hoover area, only retiring to take care of her dearest husband. She was the backbone of her family, always the first to offer help in times of need, and will be greatly missed by all. She and Henry regularly attended Huffman Assembly of God and Cathedral of the Cross for many years. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 55 years, Henry, as well as four brothers and three sisters. She is survived by her son, Danny Maddox, and daughter, Freda Carmichael, both of Trussville. She is also survived by three granddaughters: Lindsey Maddox Bowman and her husband, Jared, of Pell City; Lauren Carmichael of Clay, and Lacee Carmichael and her partner, Adam Sanders, also of Clay. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren: Ava Grace Maddox of Trussville and Kenneth Ayden Sanders of Clay, and her brother, Clarence Johnson and his wife, Charlotte, of Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, as well as a host of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 5th, from 5 PM until 7 PM, with the funeral on Saturday, September 6th, at 2 PM, both at Ridout's Trussville Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Central Alabama in memory of Henry and Doris Maddox.
