Dennis Warren Bates, 77, a native of Birmingham and long-time resident of Alabaster, Alabama passed away on Friday, January 3, 2020. He was a graduate of West End High School and attended the University of Alabama. He will be remembered as an entrepreneur, animal lover, and a man of indomitable resilience.
Survivors include three daughters, Susanne Bates Christie of Gulf Shores, Alabama, Mireille McLain Fitzmorris (husband Chandler) of Elberta, Alabama, Angel Mullen (husband Tom) of Muskego, Wisconsin; a sister, Jane Wilkerson of Clay, Alabama (husband Bob) ; a brother, Don Bates of Panama City, Florida; grandchildren Clayton Christie, Matthew Christie (wife Erin), Jessica Christie, Dalton McLain (wife Taylor), Alyssa McLain, Morgan Mullen, and Max Mullen; great grandchildren Maison McLain and Brooks McLain; several nieces and nephews; and sweet fur baby Sugar Bates.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dennis Augustus Bates, Ollie Irene (Harris) Bates, and the mother of his children, Jo Anne Traylor.
Private family burial will be held at Elmwood Cemetery, Birmingham, Alabama.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Kidney Fund or the Humane Society of Chilton County.
