Carolyn Sue "Suzy" Roberts Johnson, 81, of Homewood, Alabama, peacefully passed away in her sleep on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, after a brief illness. Suzy was born on February 26, 1943, and graduated from Shades Valley High School in 1961. That same year, she married her high school sweetheart and soulmate, Lawrence "Larry" Albert Johnson Sr. They were happily married for 54 years. The two traveled the world, visiting every continent except Antarctica. Her favorite trip was the one to the Holy Land with her daughter, Cindy. Suzy and Larry reunited in Heaven, where they will be together forever.
She was a 48-year member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Homewood, very involved with the United Methodist Women, and sang in the choir. She was also an avid gardener and a long-time member of the Homewood Garden Club. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother and grandmother, and a treasured friend to countless people. Her favorite song was “Amazing Grace” and she was singing it in her final moments.
Suzy's love for her family was unparalleled. She is survived by her son Larry, Jr. (Leisa), her daughter Cindy (Michael), her granddaughters Bailey (Jake) and Harper, sister-in-law Joan Waugaman, and nephew Jarret Roberts. She is preceded in death by her husband, Larry Sr., her parents, Charles and Jerry Roberts, and her brother, Johnny.
The service to celebrate Suzy's life will be held at Johns-Ridout's Mortuary - Elmwood in Birmingham on Monday, August 5, 2024 at 11 am. The visitation will start one hour before the service.
