Carole Richter Gravlee Whaley died on December 7, 2024, at the age of 83. She was preceded in death by husbands Walter Forrest Gravlee, Jr., and James Ira Whaley, parents, George, and Ella Richter, and grandson, Bronson Hinton. She is survived by her brother, Paul Richter (Jane), sister-in-law Mary Gravlee Crowder (Bill), daughters, Denise Henderson (David) and Renee' Moon (Steve), sons, Greg (Karen) and Michael Gravlee, seven grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.
Carole graduated from John Carroll Catholic High School, and was proud of her Catholic faith. She retired from the Eye Foundation Hospital, after being employed there for many years.
Carole suffered from dementia the last several years of her life, and the family extends its gratitude to the caregivers at Ridgewood Nursing Home and Southeast Hospice, as well as the team from Saint Cecilia Catholic Church, who ensured she regularly received the Sacrament of the Eucharist, as well as the Anointing of the Sick. God surely blesses you all for what you do.
Carole's visitation will be held on Friday, December 13, 2024, at Johns-Ridout's Mortuary-Elmwood Chapel, 800 Dennison Ave SW, Birmingham, AL 35211, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., followed by a graveside service at Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Ridgewood Nursing Home, Jasper Alabama, 201 Oak Hill Road, Jasper Alabama, 35504.
