Byron Baggett (76) was born in Birmingham, Alabama, January 23, 1948, and entered the Golden Gates of heaven on October 1, 2024. As a little boy he enjoyed growing up playing baseball and riding bicycles in Avondale Park. He graduated from Woodlawn High School and then attended The University of Alabama, getting his undergraduate degree in Finance and his MBA in Banking and Finance. Byron was able to be an exchange student through the Business school, working at a bank over the summer in Germany. When he returned to school, he met the love of his life (Pam Maughan) and they married their last semester of school in 1970.
After graduating Byron went to Fort Knox, Kentucky for Officer Training School. He then served in the Army Reserves for 8 years. After leaving Fort Knox he accepted a position with Sears and Roebuck that moved them to Marietta, Georgia, then Miami, FL, Titusville, FL (where Ben was born), and to Orange Park, FL for 39 years, He changed professions after 29 years when Sears was going to transfer him to Chicago (too cold and he hated snow). His new profession started out in Commercial Real Estate as an Appraiser and after about two years he got his Broker’s license and became a Commercial Real Estate Broker.
Byron became very involved in his church family at Island View Baptist Church in Orange Park where he was an usher, Senior Adult Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, Assistant Treasurer and member of the choir. He loved playing in the church softball league and before moving back to Alabama, assisted with merging Island View Baptist with The Springs Church. He was always a pillar of support for anyone in need, His passion for helping people and the community was evident in so many ways. He worked with troubled adults in the community through his church family. He was always there for his family, no matter the distance.
He also loved playing golf, especially Alabama Alumni Golf Tournaments. He was a member of the University of Alabama National Alumni Association. He became involved in Rotary Club when they were doing Honor Air trips to Washington, DC. He was able to assist Veterans from WWII on two Honor Air trips and so many other projects in the community as well as national projects. He rang the bell for the Salvation Army every Christmas, raised money for the Cancer Society, participated in National Wreaths Across America; all through Rotary Club. Byron served in every officer position in Orange Park Rotary Sunrise Club.
In 2022, Byron and Pam returned to where they met in Tuscaloosa, AL to be closer to family. They chose Capstone Village, a retirement community on the University of Alabama campus, and have spent their sunset years attending Alabama home football and basketball games, concerts, and many other University of Alabama activities.

I urge you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. But for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. JOSHUA 24: 15
Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works,
And glorify your Father who is in heaven. MATTHEW 5: 16
Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men. COLOSSIANS 3: 16
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I command you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of age. MATTHEW 28: 19-20
