Barbara Smith

Barbara R. Smith, who graced this world on September 11, 1944, and departed on September 20, 2024. Barbara lived a life filled with love, resilience, and quiet strength. She was a beacon of kindness, and her presence touched everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Barbara's journey through life was not always easy, but she approached every challenge with grace and determination. Her greatest joy came from her family, especially her beloved daughter, Cindy Powell, and her cherished grandchildren: Christopher Reaves (Brandy), Lisa Ramsey (Kirk), Jacob Powell (Sierra), Bethaney (Tim), Casidie (Brandon), and 9 others. Barbara's heart was full of love for her family, and she never hesitated to share how proud she was of them.

As a grandmother, Barbara was a source of wisdom, warmth, and laughter. Her grandchildren always held a special place in her heart, and she loved watching them grow into strong, kind individuals. But her love didn't stop there—she was also blessed with great-grandchildren, including Kaylee, Emma, Elijah, Kyla, Khloe, Charles, Corie, Robyn, Greyson, Cameron, Kinsley, Braxton, and Brayden. Each of them brought joy and light to Barbara’s life, and she cherished every moment spent with her growing family.

Barbara had a remarkable ability to make others feel seen and valued, always offering a listening ear and words of encouragement. Her home was a place where everyone felt welcome, where love and acceptance were abundant. She lived her life with simplicity and generosity, finding joy in the small things—the beauty of her garden or time spent surrounded by loved ones.

Today, we say goodbye to Barbara, but her spirit lives on in the hearts of all who knew her. Her legacy is one of love, compassion, and strength. As we remember her, let us carry forward her kindness, her wisdom, and her unwavering love for family. Though she is no longer with us, her presence will continue to guide us, offering comfort and strength in the days to come.

Rest in peace, Barbara. You will be dearly missed, but your memory will forever be a blessing.

A visitation for Barbara will be held Saturday, September 28, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Ridout's Trussville Chapel, 1500 Gadsden Hwy, Birmingham, AL 35235, followed by a celebration of life at 11:00 AM.
