He spent his summers during those years as a lifeguard at Chenango Valley State Park, where he met Judy. The two married in 1959. After receiving his DDS from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry in Baltimore in 1963. He opened a dental practice in Chenango Bridge where he served the community for 25 years. In addition, he served on the Chenango Forks Board of Education for many years while the couple raised their six children. In 1988, Chick retired from his dentistry to take on a new challenge with his wife Judy as the owners and managers of the Adirondack Motel in Saranac Lake which allowed him to pursue his passions of fishing, hiking, climbing the Great Peaks and meeting new people. After nine years, the couple celebrated the next stage of their lives with a year-long trip across country before settling into full retirement, splitting their time for many years between their beloved home on Skaneateles Lake, where he was a sailing enthusiast, and the beaches of Florida. Most recently Chick lived in Chenango Bridge. He is a long-time member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Hillcrest. Charles, Chick, Chicklets, Poppy, Saranac Mayor, however you knew him, he was a never ending loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend to all. Always taking his own road -- “we are taking the shortcut”, which always took hours more than it should have; his “corn runs” with our dearest neighbors and friends in Chenango Forks, along with all the summer “lake friends” that never produced corn for dinner. The all-day pontoon rides to the village in Skaneateles and, listening to the song “YMCA” on our boat ride to church every Sunday at Lourdes Camp. Just countless memories of a loving adventure. We love you and will miss our journeys, fun, laughter and education on how to have fun and enjoy life! Our special thanks to the Willow Point Nursing Home staff in the West Wing. You are a staff that treats every resident with dignity and love – THANK YOU.
Family will receive friends at Wm R. Chase funeral home from 2-5pm on Sunday, November 15. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, November 16 at 10 am at St. Francis Parish in Hillcrest.
