Mellie Jackson Shepard

Mellie Jackson "Jack" Shepard, Sr., 93 of Beverly Hills, Florida died on Tuesday, December 7, 2010. He was born in Blackshear, Georgia on Friday, March 30, 1917 to Curtis Leroy and Sara Elizabeth (Butler) Shepard. Jack was a retired engineer with Norfolk Dredging Company and served with the United States Army. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing cards.

Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Lois Shepard on December 7, 1997 and his grandson, Kenneth Cantal.

Survivors include his sons, Mellie Jackson 'Jack' Shepard, Jr. and wife Phyllis Gail of Newnan, Georgia and Ronald Hugh Shepard of Elizabeth City, North Carolina; daughters, Joann Lois Cantal and husband Aquino of Beverly Hills, Florida and Martha A. Kyker and husband James of Beverly Hills, Florida; 11 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandsons.

Visitation, Monday, December 13, 2010 from 12 Noon to 1:00 PM with a chapel service at 1:00 PM at Smith and Williams Funeral Home, 4889 Princess Anne Blvd., Virginia Beach, Virginia 23462. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, 6309 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk, Virginia 23502.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Citrus County, PO Box 641270, Beverly Hills, Florida 34464.
