It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Kenneth Casimir Galason, who suddenly left us on December 9, 2024 at the age of 79. Born on May 4, 1945 in Chicago, he was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and a man whose dedication to family, service, and work left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him.
Ken proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. As a mechanic, he played a key role in ensuring the readiness of aircraft, earning respect and admiration from his peers and superiors alike. Stationed in the Philippines, Ken met the love of his life, Gina, and they were married soon after. Their love story, which began in a foreign land, blossomed into a beautiful life together.
After being honorably discharged from the Air Force following six years of dedicated service, Ken returned to civilian life, where he went on to work at Nabisco. He spent 42 years at Nabisco, retiring as an area manager. His work ethic, loyalty, and commitment to excellence were hallmarks of his career, and he developed many lifelong friendships along the way.
Outside of his career, Ken was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His love for his family was unwavering, and he spent his life creating memories and offering support, wisdom, and unconditional love to those closest to him. He was a huge Chicago sports fan (except the Cubs) and was elated when his beloved White Sox finally won a World Series. He loved listening and watching sports. He traveled all around the US to watch his children and grandchildren play sports. He will be remembered for his kindness, humor, generous spirit, and love of sports.
Ken is survived by his loving wife, Virginia, their children Lorraine (Dennis Keup), Christine, Kenneth (Mitzi) and Michelle (Tony Gilio), their grandchildren Kevin, Karl, Kyle, Kody (Lucy), Brian, Britney, Kennedy, Laci, Addison, Kaden, Isaiah, Alexis, and Ashtin, great grandchildren Kane, Evie, and Kazimir, his youngest brother Michael, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Stephanie Galason, his brothers Raymond and Ronald, and his sister Eleanor. He leaves behind a family who cherished him, as well as many friends and colleagues who will miss his presence.
A service to honor and celebrate Ken’s life will be held on January 4, 2025 from 1pm-6pm at the Evergreen Park American Legion - 9701 S Kedzie, Evergreen Park, IL 60805. A TAPS ceremony will take place at 3pm.
