John "Rod" M. Hendrick, 86 years old, passed away surrounded by a loving family. Rod is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Brenda, his daughter Kimberly Diaz, his son Rod M. Hendrick, his brothers Peter M. Hendrick of South Carolina and Bill Hendrick of Michigan and four granddaughters.
Rod grew up in Homestead, Florida and was a long-time resident. He attended the University of Miami and served as a Metro Dade Police Officer for 30 years. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, scuba diving, boating and flying his J3 Piper Cub airplane. His hobbies included woodworking in which he crafted many porch swings, birdhouses, chairs and picnic tables.
Rod and Brenda moved to Hernando, Florida and built a beautiful home in 1986. He became a storyteller and humorist who performed as Col. Rod Hendrick, Cracker Storyteller. He traveled all over Florida making audiences laugh while telling his southern tales at festivals and private events. His humor will be truly missed by family and friends.
The family will hold a Celebration of Life event to honor Rod and share in remembrance of a life lived well and fully. It will be a joyous time as we know he is with the Lord.
