Helen was born of immigrant parents from Spain, and obtained her Bachelor's in Music through the Boston Conservatory of Music. She played with several symphonies and the Boston Pops. Helen met the love of her life, the late Dr. Carlos F. Gonzalez, MD, married, and moved to Puerto Rico for him to attend Medical School. While there, she taught English and Music/Theater Arts. After moving back to the States, she continued her love of music and theater by directing numerous community productions.
After settling in Crystal River, she took on various tasks in her husband’s office before settling on a career in Real Estate. During her "reign", she was one of the highest earning Century 21 Associates nationwide. Helen continued her community service to Citrus County by arguing for better school funding and improved curriculums. She was appointed chairman of the Citrus County Library Steering Committee and helped establish several new libraries in the County. Helen was one of the charter members of the Crystal River Pilot Club, and during her term as President they took on the project of clearing, cleaning, and painting the fire hydrants in the City of Crystal River. Helen was instrumental in writing and composing the "Welcome" song for the Crystal River Rotary Club and attended the weekly meetings to play her song so the Rotarians could sing along. In addition, she was the first woman recipient of the “Paul Harris Fellowship” award from the Crystal River Rotary Club. She was a founding member and the first president of the Citrus County Medical Society Auxiliary and contributed to the establishment of Seven Rivers Community Hospital as well as organizing the volunteers and the hospital gift shop. She was a licensed pilot and enjoyed flying her Cessna 150, Cricket, all over the place. In her ‘free time’, she enjoyed scuba diving, motorcycle riding, and scalloping.
