We are all very blessed to have had him in our lives. He was a devoted husband, father, Grandad and Great Grandad. He gave his life to the Lord as a young boy and walked with Him all the days of his life, creating a strong Christian legacy for his family.
Horace was born September 19, 1935, in San Antonio, TX, to Hampton V. and Vivian Hardwick. He met the love of his life, Jeretta Mae Clark, at Southwestern Assemblies of God University in Waxahachie, TX, and they were joined in marriage June 29, 1956, in Oklahoma City. They traveled the world together and had countless adventures. Horace worked for the General Electric Company for 39 years, from 1956 to 1995. His work took them from Dallas to Little Rock, Beaumont, Corpus Christi, Houston, San Antonio, Kansas City and Mexico City, and they settled in Bentonville in 1989.
Following Horace’s retirement, he entered the next chapter of his life as a public servant, serving the Bentonville community as an Arkansas State Representative from 2002 to 2008. Alongside his wife, he was Co-Chair of the Capital Campaign of Benton County to raise funds to build a Circle of Life Hospice home in Bentonville. As an active member in the community, Horace served on many boards, including Circle of Life, Evangel University, Southwestern Assemblies of God University, Students in Free Enterprise and Northwest Arkansas Community College.
Horace was preceded in death by his wife, parents and brother, Keith Hardwick. He is survived by his children and spouses: Kevin and Laura Hardwick of Bulverde, TX, and their children Ciana and Ekkarach Inthanom of Phuket, Thailand, and Terra Hardwick of Washington, DC; Kim and Greg Mertes of Bentonville, AR, and their children Jessica and Justin Kilgo of Rogers, AR, and Justin and Sara Mertes of Overland Park, KS; and Kirk and Tracey Hardwick, and their children Luke, Landon, Lacey Lynn, and Genevieve Hardwick of Dallas, TX; and great-grandchildren Aerina, Kaella, and Damien Inthanom, and Adeline and Annie May Mertes, and their soon-to-be-born brother.
There will be a private family graveside service celebrating Horace’s life.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to Circle of Life Hospice, 1201 NE Legacy Parkway, Bentonville, AR, 72712.
