“Well, because there was a fifty-fifty shot on whether you'd be going left. You see, we're both going left. You could have just as easily been going left too and if that was the case, it would have been awhile before you started getting scared. But since you're going the other way, I'm afraid you're gonna have to start getting scared... immediately!”
-Stuntman Mike, Death Proof
The Ortiz, Robert Edward Isaak Ortiz, or Isaak Ortiz, left this world with a pun. He passed peacefully in his sleep January 31th watching Death Proof while choosing to roll on his left side. This piece had to begin with a quote from a Quentin Tarantino movie not only because Q.T. was his favorite director and artist in the world, but because The Ortiz wanted his ending to be punny.
Isaak was a beautiful flower blossoming in the Kansas City area met by a deep winter frost depression that has now left him frozen in time at 22 years old. Whether Isaak was breaking down old films, cutting up a deck of cards or talking about the most random thing in a room…(“I Love Lamp!”) he was always a bright flicker of light that would catch the eye. He may start his conversation with offering you a “square” continue to melt your mind with the way he could manipulate a deck of cards and proceed to talk to you for hours about anything that could possibly pop into your head at the time. He had a fond love for old film and musicals, and a polished talent for cardistry as well. Jewelry making, garage sale hunting, and cooking were all activities he enjoyed. An eclectic person, his interests were all over the board including but not limited to Hello Kitty, My Little Pony, EDM music, nail polish, puzzles, VHS tapes, Zippo lighters, dominos, and philosophy. He enjoyed chain smoking and a well made tequila sunrise in an ambient bar. He loved to dance and play in bright strobe lights and bonfire flames. The true bright flame was Isaak himself, he was a spirit of pure love, a true friend to anyone that could be true to him. The Ortiz was a young man of dignity and respect. He held on tight to his morals and never twisted his or another's word. A true friend to the end, a loving son, and a cherished soul.
The Ortiz came into this world on a bright summer day July 22, 1993 in Kansas City, Missouri received by his mother Jeanie and father Benjamin Jr. He lived all throughout the Kansas City metropolitan in Merriam, Overland Park, Olathe, Kansas City, and finally Belton. He was home schooled along with his brother (Benjamin) and sister (Danielle.) His first place of employment started in 2014 at the Hy-Vee Gas working night shifts. A year later he took an adventure and worked for a carnival in Iowa with his best friends Jewell and Alec for a short month during August. shortly after his return he became employed at Arby’s in Belton. The Ortiz loved long walks and often would be seen around the Belton area at night walking.
Isaak left behind both his parents Benjamin Ortiz Jr, and Jeanie Ortiz as well as his two siblings Benjamin Ortiz and Danielle Ortiz. Following his immediate family he left behind his soul mate best friends Jewell Dunlap, Alec Cross, and a second family in the Dunlap household. Other relatives include four grandparents, four aunts, one uncle and nine cousins. He loved his immediate family and friends with all of his beautiful heart and soul, and they will forever carry on his memory.
