Harriet Corwin Conklin

Harriet Corwin (Cubs) Conklin, 102, of Belton, Mo, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, in her home of 60 years surrounded by her family. Born in Newburgh, NY, she was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer N Corwin and Sarah Wood Corwin, her beloved brother, Al Corwin, and sister Dawn Corwin Barr. Her husband of 77 years, Lt Col Clifford Conklin, passed away at the age of 99 in 2020.

Cubs and Cliff met while in high school in New Paltz, NY. After graduating from the State University of New York at New Paltz, she taught first grade. Cliff earned his wings in the U.S. Army Air Corp and they married five days later. After WWII, they were stationed in Champaign, IL, Washington, DC, the Philippine Islands and finally at Richards Gebauer AFB in Belton, MO where they made their permanent home.

Cubs and Clifford raised four remarkable children, all graduates of Belton High School. Christine (EJ) Klinges, Dunedin, FL, Clifford Jr. (Linda), Punta Gorda, FL, Craig (Laura), Chesterfield, MO and Casey (Joye), Belton, MO.

Cubs is survived by four children, eight grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren as well as her brother Richard Corwin. In addition, she is survived by her beloved sister-in-law, Patricia Corwin, nieces Katherine Cullin, Nancy Corwin, as well as many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Cubs worked in retail for many years beginning with Klines in 1964, then Woolf Bros, Stix, Baer & Fuller and finally Dillard’s until 2009. She loved working and made life-long friendships. She was a Life Master in bridge, a proud member of Clio Sorority in college. She was a world-class shopper and loved happy hour with her family. Her love of sports included baseball (Yankees all the way), the NBA and the NFL. She could talk sports with the best of them.

Her surprise 100TH birthday was celebrated in 2022 with attendees from all over the U.S. She was beloved by everyone who knew her. She never forgot a birthday and enjoyed sending out her annual Christmas letter as well as sending cards for any and all occasions.

Cubsie lived life the way it was meant to be. Full of love and laughter, never meeting a stranger. If you were lucky enough to have crossed paths with her, her legacy will remain with you forever.
