Harriet Elsie Sagers Mercer was called home on August 15, 2024, at the age of 86, in Redmond, Washington. She was born to Ervin and Stella Sagers in Delta, Utah on January 29, 1938. Harriet and her husband, Paul Mercer, just celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.
Harriet lived a life marked by humility, a profound respect for all of creation, and an unwavering commitment to her faith and family. Her life’s journey was graced by the companionship of her loving husband, Paul Mercer, and the joy brought by her family; daughter Tiffany Spillner & husband Dan, son Gregory Mercer & wife Jaye, grandchildren Nicholas Mercer and Gabrielle Mercer. They now carry her legacy forward with the same quiet strength she exemplified.
Harriet walked in gratitude, her steps guided by the teachings and fellowship she found within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. It was there she humbly served, loved, and inspired others, embracing the divine in everyone she met.
The Mercer family invites you to join in a celebration of Harriet’s life and her enduring spirit at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Bellevue Stake Center (14536 Main Street, Bellevue) with a 10 A.M. viewing and 11:30 A.M. service on Friday August 30, 2024. Her entombment and reception will immediately follow at Sunset Hills Memorial Park & Funeral Home of Bellevue, Washington. Sunset Hills will oversee the ceremonies, ensuring that Harriet’s final farewell is as full of grace as her life was.
The family is so grateful for Harriet’s loving care givers; Irene Kim, Saida Lee, Evelyn Kumsinda, Diane Speer, Christina Frankenfield, Karen Ellis, Helen Thompson, Jeff & Kim Malyon, Andy and Wendy Rice. As well as the many other friends visiting Harriet during her at home 12 month care time.
In memory of Harriet’s compassionate soul and her reverence for all living things, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be offered to Best Friends Animal Society, BYU TV, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, supporting causes that were dear to her heart and reflective of her generous spirit. Harriet’s memory will forever be a blessing to those who knew her and felt the gentle touch of her kindness.
Two of Harriet’s favorite quotations (authors unknown)...
“And God promised men that good and obedient wives would be found in all corners of the world. Then He made the earth round... and laughed and laughed and laughed.”
“When God answers my prayers, sometimes He says ‘yes’, sometimes He says ‘no’, and sometimes He says ‘you’ve got to be kidding.’”
