Ted was born in Schenectady, NY on July 7, 1937, to the late Henry and Mildred Andersen. He married his late wife, June Andersen on September 19, 1958. They spent 61 years together before she passed on May 17, 2019. He has missed her every day since.
Ted is survived by his sons, Douglas (Maryann) Andersen of Collinsville, Gregory (Karen) Andersen of Trenton, and daughter, Pamela (Paul) West of Trenton; grandchildren, Joshua (Ashley) West, and Hannah West, (friend Austin); great granddaughters, Adaline & Audrey West; his brother, Howard (Melanie LaRocca) Andersen of Bluffton, SC; brother-in-law, Richard (Debbie) Wingeier of Auburn, CA.
Ted entered the United States Air Force in 1955, after graduating from Stoneham High School in Stoneham, MA. During his 30 years in the Air Force as a jet engine mechanic, one of the missions Ted supported was the first Lunar Landing Mission, Apollo 11. While on that special mission, he received the Airman’s Medal, for heroism. After retiring from the Air Force, Ted worked as a Field Service Representative for General Electric for 16 years in their Aircraft Engine Division.
Ted knew no strangers. He made many friends after retiring, working the St. Louis Rams games at the Edward Jones Dome and loved his time delivering flowers for a local florist.
He was an avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting, fishing, and golfing, especially with his grandson, Josh. He was also a proud member of the local VFW, Post 7983.
Ted was a Mr. Fixit and could repair just about anything and most times you would find him tinkering in his garage. He enjoyed spending time with his family and his grandchildren.
The family wishes to express their grateful appreciation for the care and love shown to Ted by Hospice of Southern Illinois and the staff at Trenton Village.
