Bob attended Belleville Township High School. He dropped out of high school and joined the Army to help support his country and proudly served. Bob was trained and sent to Vietnam with the 25th Infantry division where he was the point man for his company his entire tour. During his tour in Vietnam, he received 2 Purple Hearts, citations and also the Good Conduct Medal.
Bob worked at the St. Louis Post Dispatch newspaper for nearly 40 years. He loved his job and the people with whom he worked. Bob was very patriotic and was a member of many military Veteran’s organizations. He was a member of the VFW Post 1739 where he was an officer, chaplain, and for many years was in charge of the Poppy Day booster. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Disabled Veterans. Bob drove for the DAV and cared more about others than he did himself as he drove many veterans to their appointments at the veteran’s hospitals. He continued his work with the DAV until his own health started deteriorating and he could no longer walk. Bob was always ready to help others and also was a driver for Meals on Wheels for many years. He had a heart of gold and believed in kindness and love, always helping and being there for those in need.
