Barry graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in Civil Engineering and later returned and received a master’s in Structural Engineering. His love for the University of Illinois continued long after graduating as he became an Illinois Fighting Illini Football season ticket holder.
Barry was an exemplary professional engineer for over 35 years before retirement. Recently, he returned to doing what he loved again at David Mason + Associates to help out his old department. After a successful career, Barry enjoyed relaxing with his wife, Barbara, at their second home in Florida, and spending time with their grandchildren, who affectionately deemed him “Papa Bear.”
Barry enjoyed rock climbing, farming with his cousins in the summer, gardening, coaching hockey, listening to music from the 60s and 70s, and brewing beer. Additionally, Barry was a proud member of the Harley Davidson H.O.G. and was delighted to collect poker chips at each new dealership he visited on his travels. One of Barry's favorite Sunday traditions was heading to the local Packer’s bar with his family. He could be heard yelling, "Go Pack Go!" repeatedly from a mile away.
Barry was preceded in death by his parents, Milton T. and Frances L. (Paule) Mueller; his grandparents Theodore P. and Frieda (Riedel) Mueller; his aunt and uncle Howard L. and Wanda L. (Corner) Mueller; father-in-law John C. Meehan; a son, Freddie Mueller, and a daughter, Widget Mueller.
Barry is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Barbara J. (Meehan) Mueller, whom he married on February 27, 1982; his children, Brian J. (Emily) Mueller of Ballwin, MO, Brett D. (Emma) Mueller of Normal, IL, Blake T. Mueller of Columbia, IL, and his walking buddy Milo; his sister Pam S. (John) Buchert; three granddaughters, Frances Mueller, Rosalie Mueller, and Harper Shaw; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
