Vincent Gerard Marsales was born in Chicago, Illinois and moved at a young age to Houston, Texas where he lived the rest of his life. He left us on January 21st, 2024, dying peacefully at home. He is survived by his mother, Rita Marsales and his two siblings, Eustacia Marsales and Byron Marsales.
Vincent was a child of nature. He loved protecting the environment and always recycled. He planted trees and flowers. He fed the birds, loved cats, dogs and horses, even the squirrels that he was constantly fending off his garden. The butterfly life cycle fascinated him. Vince volunteered for many years at Willow Waterhole tending newly planted trees and assisting people during special events.
He enjoyed playing team sports when young, then later watching baseball, football, and basketball. Growing up in Houston, the home teams had his love, especially as the Astros won it all late in his life. He attended almost all of the Rice Owl home football games for many years. Vicent also loved the excitement of greyhound racing and never missed viewing the Triple Crown races.
Vincent enjoyed cooking, particularly outdoor grilling and trying new dishes. He loved peppers, the hotter the better, and he grew his own. He planted various herbs and tomatoes in his garden. He collected many tools and knew how to use them all. He was good at following directions meticulously and putting things together.
He followed astronomy and NASA news. He collected coins and sports memorabilia. He was an avid chess player and his copy of Bobby Fischer Teaches Chess was well worn.
He loved the sounds of fountains and of windchimes. He listened to a wide range of music from country to rock to jazz. He had an extensive record collection. He especially loved the Beatles and most recently Billy Gibbons. The last CD he was listening to in his truck was Freewheelin’ Woman by Jewel.
Vincent was a delivery driver and had his own courier service for many years. He related well to people which enabled him to be a good salesman. He genuinely loved helping people however he could.
Vincent wanted everything to be beautiful and for people to be happy. His bright spirit will be missed.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 19th, at 10:00 AM at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 6800 Buffalo Speedway, Houston, TX 77025.
