Sister Vincent Haverty, C.V.I., died on Thursday, April 14, 2022, at the age of 93. She was born on February 18, 1929 to Harry and Margaret Haverty in County Galway, Ireland. She entered the Congregation of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament on March 6, 1949 and made her final Profession of Vows on August 15, 1955. She lived a life of fidelity to God and her community for 73 years.
Sister Vincent graduated high school from Incarnate Word Academy. She earned her B.A. Degree in Education and Mathematics from University of Houston in 1959. She attended Notre Dame University.
In her ministry, Sister Vincent was a high school math teacher serving in Bishop Byrne High School in Port Arthur and Marian High School in Houston, although she spent most of her teaching ministry at Incarnate Word Academy in Houston. She was well- known for being a firm and challenging teacher. Students appreciated what they learned from her about math and life. Sister could always be found in her classroom early in the morning, ready and willing to tutor students. Although, she has been retired for many years, former students still remembered her and credit her with their career success.
Sr. Vincent was preceded in death by her parents, and three brothers. She is survived by her sister, Mary Kilconnon and brother, Brendan Haverty of Ireland.
All services will be at the Motherhouse of the Sisters of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament. The visitation will be on Thursday, April 21, 2022 at 4:30 p.m. and wake service at 5:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, April 22, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. followed by interment at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.
