Richard was a veteran of the US Army who served during the Vietnam war, an avid fisherman in his free time, and a retired master plumber. An irrepressible connoisseur of his own brand of Dad jokes, Richard never tired of reminding his kids of his fine head of hair, serenading them with his version of “I’m so pretty,” and kindly offering to remove any piercings or shorten any offending haircuts with his large supply of tools. Richard’s tool collection was only outnumbered by his paperback books, which he preferred over most other forms of entertainment or enrichment. He loved to make his family laugh and showed his affection and immense pride for all their achievements through teasing them. He also had a sweet tooth dedicated to baked goods that he happily shared with his family.
Richard was the youngest of three boys and though they argued about things like sports and politics, he loved and looked up to his big brothers, Phil and Edward, both of whom survive him. He is also survived by his loving wife, Karen, and their three children: Joseph (Aubrey), Amanda, and Jennifer (Scott). He was Opa to his grandkids: Loralai, Juliet, Evie, and Jonah.
