Barbara C. McClintock, nee Morrisey, was born in Seattle Washington, November 12, 1922; she lived most of her life in the Baytown and Houston areas and died on May 17, 2022 in Houston Texas at the age of 99 ½.
Barbara and her mother settled in Bellaire, Texas when Barbara was still young. She attended the Incarnate Word Academy, and then went on to Rice Institute (now Rice University), graduating in the class of ’43.
After graduation she took a job at the Humble Refinery in Baytown. It was there she met John H. McClintock; they were later married at St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Baytown, Texas on September 8, 1944.
She raised her family and worked as a substitute teacher until 1965 when she became a full-time biology teacher at Ross S. Sterling High School. She retired in 1985.
Barbara and John enjoyed travel and made it to each of the continents (except Antarctica), most of them several times. After her John died in 2001, she continued her travels. Some highlights were family trips (including all the grandchildren) to Egypt, East Africa, Southeast Asia, Greece, and 2 big trips to Canada. And in between these big trips, lots of smaller ones. Particular favorites were the UK and Ireland, where she spent time with her children tracking down family roots. Her greatest lament as she grew older was how it limited her ability to travel.
Barbara was a volunteer at the Houston Museum of Natural Science, working in several capacities, but ultimately focusing on malacology.
Barbara was a member of the Altar Society at St. Joseph’s church in Baytown. After she moved into Houston she joined St. Vincent de Paul, the church she attended as a child. She actively participated in the JP II discussion group, Spanish lessons, and the compassion committee.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John H. McClintock, who passed away in 2001. Barbara is survived by her children and their spouses: John (Jack) McClintock and Susan Peterson, Mary and David (Skip) Wolters, Elizabeth McClintock and Rick Adams, and Margaret and Greg Slutz, and her 15 grandchildren and step-grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews from around the country.
Visitation with the family will begin at 8:30 am, followed by a Mass of the Resurrection at 10:00 am, Wednesday, June 1, 2022 in Our Lady of Lourdes Chapel at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 6900 Buffalo Speedway, Houston, TX 77025. Rite of Committal will follow in Baytown, TX. Barbara had requested that in lieu of flowers please consider donations to the Houston Museum of Natural Science.
