Born on July 16, 1951, Allen was the apple of his parents’ eye as their first child and only son. We often joked that growing up with three sisters turned him into a confirmed bachelor, but his devotion to his family was unmatched. Virtually every vacation he took was spent with the people he loved most, and there was nothing he wouldn’t do for us, whether it was a move, help recovering from surgery, completing tasks around the house, or assisting financially. He was much more than a brother and son; he was our anchor and North Star. He felt his purpose was taking care of his family and ensuring we had everything we needed or anything that brought us joy.
A lifelong Yankees fan, Allen enjoyed more than baseball and was an encyclopedia of sports knowledge. After moving to Houston in 1972, he grew to love the Houston Astros, Dallas Cowboys, and Houston Texans while also cheering on the USC Trojans. His brother-in-law is devastated by the loss of his sports buddy. Allen often talked him off the ledge while watching yet another loss by the Cowboys.
When Allen was around, he was a calming influence who could make any situation better. And no one was better at teasing with love. His sense of humor could light up a room with laughter. Most notable was his kindness and generosity to everyone he met. A good man, always ready to lend a hand, he was admired and respected by all, from friends and family to customers and work colleagues during his tenure at Foley’s, where he worked his way up the ranks from sales clerk to buyer.
Allen is preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Maryellen Lescure, and sister, Annette Lescure, and he leaves behind sisters Jeannine Lescure Rainone and Danielle Lescure and brother-in-law John Rainone, who all adored him.
In our eyes, Allen was as close to perfect as a person can be, and our lives won’t be the same without him. The Yankees and Astros have also lost a dedicated fan, so in lieu of flowers, we request that donations be made to the New York Yankees Foundation at 1 E. 161st Street, Bronx, NY 10451-2100 (New York Yankees Universe Fund https://giving.mskcc.org/yankees-universe-fund) or the Astros Foundation at P.O. Box 288, Houston, TX 77001-0288 (https://www.mlb.com/astros/community/foundation/donate). Here’s to a Yankees World Series win!
