Jean Kammer

Doris Jean Kammer, nee Miedel, age 81 of Baltimore Maryland passed away unexpectedly on May 17, 2024, after a brief but intense illness. She was born September 29, 1942 in Scottdale, Pennsylvania; the daughter of the late Adam M. and Laura Mae Miedel.

Jean graduated from East Huntington Township High School in 1960. She worked at Hilltop Labs and Bio-Serv totaling over 50 years in Biomedical research sales. She was Bio-Serv’s Regional Sales Manager for over 20 years and was highly instrumental in the formulation and development of Bio-Serv’s very first primate enrichment treat, PRIMA Treats, which were launched when environmental enrichment was newly mandated by the Animal Welfare Act in 1985. She was a lifetime member of AALAS (American Association for Laboratory Animal Science); where she held numerous offices and had affiliations with SCAW (Scientists Center for Animal Welfare), ASP (American Society of Primatologists) among others. Aside from her career accomplishments, Jean shared in her late husband’s Charlie Kammer passion for The Yankee Rebels Drum and Bugle Corps where she served many roles. She was a longtime member of St. Michael Lutheran Church in Perry Hall, MD.

In addition to her parents, Jean was predeceased by her beloved husband Charles F. Kammer; sister Barbara Cole (nee Miedel); brother James F. Miedel; daughter in law Sandy Kammer; brother in law A. Wesley Saunders; and sister in law Anna Mae Kammer.

Jean was a devoted mother of Vicki Torgalski (nee Watson), and Kristi Watson and step mother of Michael Kammer and his wife Sandy, David Kammer and his wife Shelly, and Brian Kammer; loving grandmother of Brandon Kammer, Amanda Vojvoda and Devin Kammer, and great grandmother of four. She is also survived by her brothers Thomas R. Miedel and his wife Margaret, and William P. Miedel and his wife Nancy; sister in law Marie Saunders, and a brother in law Frank Kammer, along with many nieces, and nephews.

An intimate gathering to Celebrate the Life of Jean will be held at Schimunek Funeral Home of Bel Air, Inc., 610 W MacPhail Rd, Bel Air, MD 21014 on Saturday, November 23, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
