Harold Eugene “Gene” Edge, Jr. born on July 7, 1945, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 14, surrounded by prayer and song from his loving wife. A devout Christian and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Gene leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and joy.
He was the beloved husband of Gloria Edge; loving father of Patricia Myers and her husband Jeffrey, and Lorri Edge-Hotmer and her husband Larry; and dear grandfather of Jonathan Myers, Sarah Myers, and Mason Riggs.
Gene cherished his family, always finding time to create memorable moments with his children and grandchildren, whether it was playing miniature golf, body surfing at the beach, or racing go-karts.
A proud member of the Army’s Signal Corps, Gene served his country with honor during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he dedicated his career to the telephone company, originally known as Ma Bell, which later became Verizon. His expertise and commitment to his work earned him respect and admiration from his colleagues.
Gene had a remarkable talent for working with computers, a skill he generously shared with friends and family by building and servicing countless machines for them over the years. His technical prowess was matched by his passions for playing golf and shooting pool.
Growing up on a farm in Garrett County, “where snow was measured not by the inch, but by the foot,” as he would like to remind folks, gave Gene a lifelong appreciation for the simple joys of life. He loved to play cards and read books, which included a particular fondness for science fiction.
Gene spent his life in service to God and to his communities, whether that was through playing guitar in his church’s praise band or volunteering for the church, the Jaycees, or the Girl Scouts.
Gene’s love and commitment to God and family will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy will live on in the cherished memories he created with his loved ones and the lasting impact he had on their lives.
