Doris "Dotty" Diem Rembold

Doris Diem Rembold, passed away peacefully after an extended illness. Loving wife of Arnold Rembold for 63 years. Beloved mother of Kelly Hoke (John) and Scott Rembold (Elizabeth) and devoted grandmother of Chad and Morgan Hoke and Caitlin, Nora and Burke Rembold.

Doris Marie Diem, was born and raised in Joppa, Maryland. She attended Edgewood High School, where she played basketball and field hockey and was a member of the National Honor Society. At age 15, she met the love of her life, Arnold Rembold and they were married five years later in 1961. As a newlywed, Dotty parlayed beauty contest success into a job working for the Patricia Stevens modeling agency among others, a job she would continue part time for two decades. Twins Kelly and Scott came along in 1966 and she fully realized her calling. The Rembold’s moved to Fallston to raise their family in 1972 and lived in the same house for almost 50 years. Simply stated, Dotty was the perfect mother, always there to support and encourage her children. When they entered High School, she launched a successful career as an office administrator and assistant to the base commander at Edgewood Arsenal and Aberdeen Proving Grounds. Despite “running the base” she never missed her children’s games or activities. When her twins went off to college, Dotty combatted her empty nest blues by earning her Associates degree from Harford Community College.

Her life found new purpose as her children married and started families of their own. Two more to love in spouses John and Elizabeth and then five grandchildren whom she and Arnold adored and spoiled as all new grandparents do. Chad, Morgan, Caitlin, Nora and Burke will always remember Gigi’s Halloween parties, Christmas celebrations and the annual summer family vacations at Bethany Beach; as well as the many cards and phone calls celebrating every occasion and accomplishment. As Kelly and Scott learned years earlier, Dotty made sure that each grandchild knew how special and unique they are.

Dotty was an avid tennis player into her 60s. Tennis was replaced by bridge as her favorite past time later in life and her weekly bridge partners became her closest friends. She never missed Wimbledon or the U.S. Open on television and was a huge Maryland basketball fan. She even came to appreciate professional football, especially the Ravens, in recent years. Dotty cherished the church family she acquired through her board service and as a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She led a life guided by civility, forgiveness, generosity and grace and will be remembered as an exceptionally kind and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend; and a truly faithful servant of God.

Dotty was predeceased by her parents, Doris and Paul Diem and her stepfather, William Wells. She is survived by her brothers Alan Diem (Regina) and Douglas Diem (Cindy) and her stepsisters Terry Shenton (Thomas), and Nancy Miller (Barry) as well as 15 nieces and nephews.

A visitation for Dotty will be held at Schimunek Funeral Home, 610 W MacPhail Rd, Bel Air, MD 21014 on Sunday, January 28, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM.

A visitation for Dotty will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church 1100 Philadelphia Road Joppa, MD 21085 on Monday, January 29, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. The Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 AM. Interment to follow at Highview Memorial Gardens, 3433 Fallston Rd., Fallston, MD 21047.
