Vivian Irene Hand Shrewsbury, 94 of Coal City, WV, passed away on June 22, 2020 at the home from natural causes. Vivian was born in Damascus, VA on April 13, 1926 to the late Joseph Walter Hand and Maude Ethel Craven Hand.
Her receiving line in Heaven will be her Heavenly Father, her husband of 53 years, Walter “Jack” Preston Shrewsbury, her three brothers, James, Harold, and Douglas Hand, her three sisters, Edith Tackett, Roberta Spicer Martin, and Mary Alice Hand.
Those left to cherish her memory are sisters, Pansy Davidson of Lakeside, CA, Maxine (George) Smith of Lake Charles, LA, and sister-in-law, Shelby Hand of Virginia Beach, VA; five daughters, Evelyn (John) Walker of Christiansburg, VA, Judy (Steve) Allard of Louisburg, NC, Kathy (Jack) Keen, Patsy Shrewsbury of Coal City, WV and Brenda (Sean) Cassidy of Prosperity, SC; ten grandchildren, Delmar (Gini) Walker, Jacob (Nichole) Walker, David (Stephanie) Allard, Jason (Melissa) Allard, Stacey (Doug) Moore, Christy (Bryan) Parent, Kelly (Kelly) Ferguson, Stephanie Keen, Robert (Kara) Lowery, and Eric (Nikki) Lowery ; sixteen great-grandchildren, Ryan, Allison, Shawna, (Patrick), Haleigh, James, Ashleigh, Addison, Tyler, Jaxon, Olivia, Emily, Lauren, Jim, Kaitlyn, Krista, and Colton; two great-great-grandchildren, Cason and Paisley; a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Vivian resided in Coal City, WV for the past 73 years and faithfully attended Cales Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church until her health began to fail. She was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great and great-great-grandmother, sister and aunt. She grew up in Sophia, WV and was a member of the first graduating class of Sophia High School. She had a thirst for knowledge and was an avid reader, enthusiastic traveler always ready for the next adventure, and was well known for touching many lives by the cards (birthday, anniversary, get well, and thinking of you) she faithfully mailed each month. She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.
We would like to thank all of her neighbors and church family for their love and support, the Hospice Nurses and CNA’s for their excellent care, and Angie Sizemore, her personal care giver.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-9:00 pm, Thursday, June 25, 2020 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be private due to the COVID-19 Pandemic in the Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Home with the Reverend Ken Parent and Pastor Lee Wooten officiating.
For those who wish, the Funeral Service will be via Facebook Live beginning at 1:50 pm on Friday, June 26, 2020 on Blue Ridge Funeral Home & Memorial Garden’s Facebook page. Burial will follow in the Coal City Community Cemetery and her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
At the request of the family and the staff of Blue Ridge Funeral Home, all who attend the visitation are required to wear proper facial coverings according to the current CDC guidelines for the COVID-19 Pandemic.
