Valeria Carolyn Bragg

Valeria Carolyn Bragg of Jumping Branch, WV passed away on Thursday October 20, 2022 at home in NC following a short illness. She was born on March 11, 1933 in New, WV. She was the daughter of the late Clifford and Mona Garten Fox.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard C. Bragg; her infant son Larry; and sisters; Maxine Russell, Mercadese Perry, Virginia Dickens, Ruth Nelljean Fox.

Those left to cherish her memory include: a sister, Peggy (Harlos) Kelly of Seaford, DE; her daughters Linda (Paul) Haje of CA, Lois (Steve) Walker of Winston-Salem, NC, Anita Bragg of Jumping Branch, WV and Alice (Rob) Dean of King, NC; seven grandchildren Mario Foster, Jackie Walker, Spencer Walker, Addy Walker (Steven Bolton), Stephanie Walker, Beth Dean, Sarah (Josh) Craze; and 3 great-grandchildren Roman, Evie, and Elena.

Carolyn was a member of Bluestone Baptist Church for 55 years. She was part of Hinton’s inaugural LPN program, and graduated from the University of Charleston with a B.S. in nursing. She worked as an RN at the VA Medical Center in Beckley, WV, retiring in 1998. She loved helping others through her nursing career. She loved her family, God, her church, coffee, watching horror movies, singing in an operatic voice, and her “baby” dolls. She was an avid gardener and loved being outdoors, and was a terrific cook.

A gathering will be held on Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home in Beckley, WV from 6 PM to 8 PM. Services will follow Thursday, October 27, 2022 at 12 PM with Rev. Donnie Russell officiating at Bluestone Baptist Church in Jumping Branch, WV. Pallbearers will be Steve Walker, Spencer Walker, Paul Haje, Rob Dean, Steven Bolton, and Eddie Bennett. The family will receive visitors at 11 AM. She will be laid to rest at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley, WV, following the service.
