Heaven welcomed home a faithful servant when Roy Browning Buckland of Hinton, WV passed away on January 7, 2021 following a brief illness.
Roy was born in Gatewood, WV to Laura and Hobart Buckland on October 18, 1933. He grew up in Gatewood and Talcott, WV and graduated from Talcott High School. Upon graduation he joined the United States Air Force where he served for 21 years throughout the U.S., Europe, Asia, and in the Vietnam War. He met his bride, Peggy Turner, while in England and brought her back to West Virginia where they were married and spent their life together. Upon retirement from the Air Force, the family moved to a small farm outside of Hinton, WV.
Roy loved the outdoors, fishing, and being with family. He was a master griller for many family barbecues. He was a huge fan of WVU sports and rarely missed a game. He and Peg always loved to travel and explore, enjoying many camping adventures across the country. He was always ready to lend a helping hand and was very involved in the Hinton Presbyterian Church and food pantry.
His family will always remember him as a wonderful, loving, and patient husband, father, and grandfather who was always ready to take time for them.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 64 years, Peggy, whom he took by the hand and welcomed to Heaven to be with him again on January 9, 2021; three children, Mike Buckland and wife, Pam, of Beaver, WV, Wendy Sonnenberg and husband, Larry of Bozeman, MT, and Steve Buckland and wife, Tammy of High Pont, NC; 7 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and a brother, Oather Buckland and wife, Dearlane of Hickory, NC.
Private services to celebrate the life of Roy Browning Buckland will be held at a later date.
