Mary Olive Wood was born to Althea (Brown) Wood of Nallen and M. C. Wood of Richmond, Virginia on July 29, 1939, and left us for her heavenly reward on December 28, 2022. After a childhood spent in Nallen, Beckley, and Denver, Colorado, she graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley. In 1960 she began working at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, and for 42 years served Blue Ridge and its affiliates.
An avid movie fan, Mary could quote the cast and plot of nearly any film made before 1980. As the unofficial family archivist, she kept tabs on many relatives, and with her cousin Phyllis could always be relied on to identify anyone appearing at the family reunion. The many pictures she left behind testify to her love of photography. Mary was predeceased by her sister, Betty Seaman, who passed in August 2022. She is survived by two nephews, Stephen Seaman of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Ted Seaman of Cincinnati, Ohio, her first cousins Phyllis and Floyd Bennett of Nallen, and many other beloved family members.
As her cousin Chad Bennett remarked, she always had a smile and a kind word for everyone, and especially loved the laughter of children.
Funeral Service will be held at Blue Ridge Funeral Home on Friday, January 13, 2023 at 12:00 pm.
