John R. Thomas Sr.

John R. Thomas Sr., 92, of Coal City, WV passed away on Saturday, May 15, 2021 in Charleston, WV. He was born September 6, 1928 in Winding Gulf, WV to the late Floyd L. Thomas Sr. and Elsie Ailstock Thomas.

John was a 1946 graduate of Stoco High School, a founding member of the Coal City Lions Club, Coal City Fire Department and the Stoco Communities Reunion. John was a retired Mine Tipple Operator for Riffe Branch Coal and East Gulf. He was an avid fisherman and loved to fish on Smith Mountain Lake.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his loving wife, Wanda Pritchard Thomas; son, John R. Thomas Jr. (Margie); brothers, Floyd L. Thomas Jr. ”Bud” , and Jerry Thomas; sisters, Betty Thomas, Mary L. Thomas, Helen Ritter and Ruth Moreland.

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Pamela L. Allen (Jim); grandchildren, Scott Sr., Keith (Shaye), Lisa (Andy), great grandchildren, Katlyn (Ricky), Brianna, Scott Jr., Drew and Andrew; Great Great Grandchildren, Kadyn, Raigyn, Bryson, Rivaleigh, Krews, and Clayton.

Funeral Service will be held at Blue Ridge Funeral Home Saturday, May 22, 2021 at 2:00pm. Friends may gather with the family from 1:00 – 2:00 pm.
