Edith B. (Hand) Tackett, a daughter, a sister, a wife, and a mother, but most importantly, a Child of the King, was called to her heavenly home on Monday, January 29, 2018 in her 100th year on this earth.
She had experienced many changes in her life, the death of her husband, Claude C. Tackett, her father Joseph Walter Hand, her mother Maude E. Craven Hand, her brothers Harold Hand, James Hand, and Douglas Hand, her sisters Roberta Spicer Martin and Mary Alice Hand, her first born son Claude C. Tackett, Jr., her eldest daughter Patricia Tackett Potter, and her beloved granddaughter Edith Claudine Basham.

Edith was loved by all that ever met her. She was a true lady and most importantly, a devout Christian. She was known as Granny or Mama by the children that she would encounter at church. Some would even call her the Candy Lady because she always had a sweet treat for the little ones.
She was very active in church services teaching in her earlier days at Helen Baptist, VBS, and she was a member of the Alice Craven Women’s Circle at Helen Baptist. Upon moving to Odd she attended Mt. Valley Missionary Baptist and worked with VBS, Christmas programs and the Ladies Circle.
She would be found each day doing her morning devotionals and studying God’s word as we are instructed to do. She would read her Bible through from Genesis to Revelations each year for the past 25-30 years.
The entire family all knew about her wonderful taste for a Real Coke. It would have to be the small glass bottles and be brought to her at noon each day. Whenever a gift was sought for a Birthday, Christmas, or any special occasion, you could be certain that some family member would devise a way to make it a Coca Cola gift. So the next time you think of Edith B. Hand Tackett on September 27th or January 29th, have a Coke and remember this dear lady.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday, February 2, 2018 from 5:30-7:30 PM with a funeral service commencing at 7:30 PM at Blue Ridge Funeral Home. Edith will be laid to rest on Saturday, February 3, 2018 with an 11:00 AM graveside service at Mock Cemetery in Demascus, VA.
