Born October 23, 1930 in Lilly Brook WV he was the son of the late Carl and Lola Wills Adkins.
“Gooch” was a 12 year veteran of the United States Air Force, and then after returning home he worked and retired as a coal miner. He was a member and past president of the UMWA Local Union 6105 for over 36 years. He was a member of Sunset Hills Missionary Baptist church in Coal City where he served as a church trustee.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son Carl E. Adkins Jr. on January 17, 2012. His brothers and sisters Emory Atkins, Ronald Atkins, Athol Atkins, Bonnie Atkins, and Oleta Atkins.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife June Williams Adkins , 3 sons Anthony Ray Williams and his wife Wanda of Midway, Tony Adkins and his wife Paige of Newport News Virginia, and Joe Adkins and his wife April of Midway; Nine Grand children Ryan Williams and his wife Jessica of Midway, Nick Williams, of Midway, Michael Adkins, Meredith Adkins of Newport News Va, Gene Adkins of Gloucester VA, Katie Snow, Corey Hoebeke and Allie Hoebeke of Newport News Va, Riley Adkins of Midway, Carter Adkins of Midway, Brianna Lee Gloucester Va. Daughter in Law Sherrie Adkins Gloucester Va, Sister Juanita Long of Princewick , Several nieces, nephews and many beloved friends.
Services will be Friday February 6, 2015 at 2:00pm in the chapel of Williams –Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Sophia WV with Pastor Melvin Jameson. Pallbearers will be Grandsons Nicholas Williams, Ryan Williams, Michael Adkins, and Gene Adkins; sons Tony Adkins and Joe Adkins. Following with the service he will be laid to rest in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Beckley, with military graveside rights.
