He was born in Helen, West Virginia on December 17, 1935 to Fred Robinson and Jay Greer Robinson.
In 1954 he joined the United States Air Force, obtaining the rank of MSgt and serving twenty years and 14 days; retiring April 30, 1974. Bobbie attended Beckley College obtaining a business administration degree in 1982. After many years, he also went on to retire from FedEx Express in Beckley WV.
Bobbie is survived by sons, Michael Robinson of Beckley and Doug Robinson and wife, Mary Barr Robinson of Sophia; grandchildren, Chris Robinson and wife, Tiffany, Jonathan Robinson, Zack Robinson, Sara Robinson Boggs and husband, Dustin, and Nick Robinson; great-grandchildren, Broc Robinson and Makenzi Boggs; special family members to mention, Frank and Mark Robinson both of Brevard N.C., Eric Robinson of TX, Ladawn Weaver of Fairmont and Pam Poff of OH.
He was preceded in death by his father, Fred; mother, Jay; wife of 57 years, Phyllis A. (Poff) Robinson; sister, Kethel Holley; brother, Frank.
Bobbie’s true passion was fastpitch softball, which began while serving in the USAF and continued until he was unable to participate. He began as a position player as pitcher and catcher, later focusing on pitching. He loved the sport so much, after Bobbie retired from FedEx he began coaching. His students ranged from high school students to Professional Athletes.
He was also a long-time member of Sophia Freewill Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be Monday, May 18th, 2020 at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Home with Pastor Don Kelly officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Garden of the Last Supper of Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens with Military Honors.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to a local Girls Fastpitch Softball Organization or to Hospice of Southern West Virginia-Bowers Hospice House, 454 Cranberry Dr., Beckley, WV.
