Betty Maxine Wriston, 88, of Mount Hope passed away after a lengthy illness on Thursday, December 19, 2019, surrounded by her family. Betty was born on February 26, 1931 in Mabscott, WV to her late parents Benjamin Porterfield and Mary (Woods) Maynor. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 69 years, Robert Wriston; sisters Jean Vandall and Evelyn Roop; grandsons Freddy Clay, Jr. and Josh Smith; granddaughter Lora Wriston; step-father Azel Maynor; and son-in-law Carl Larson.
Betty is survived by her children Bob (Gail) Wriston, Kathy (Fred) Clay, Roger (Tammie) Wriston, Jeanne Larson, Rick Wriston, and Lisa Wriston; brothers Benny and Mark Porterfield; brother-in-law Paul Roop; 16 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; and many extended family and friends who will miss her dearly.
Betty grew up in Pax and resided at Maple Fork for over 70 years. She has been blessed for the past 4 years of special care given to her by her daughter Lisa. Betty was an LPN at BARH for over 25 years. Our mother was a kind, gentle, and loving soul. She taught generosity, faith and self-sacrifice to each of us by her example. She instilled love and compassion in our hearts. She was truly the role model we have all tried to become, a beautiful soul, we now lay to rest, forever grateful and blessed to be her children.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday, December 26, 2019 from 6-9 pm at Blue Ridge Funeral Home. A Funeral Service celebrating her life will be held on Friday, December 27, 2019 at 1:00 pm at the funeral home with Jim Bowyer officiating. Betty will be laid to rest with her late husband, Robert at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens following services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Betty to Maple Fork Baptist Church: 1288 Maple Fork Rd. Mount Hope, WV 25880.
