Deborah Crary Kennedy

Friends and family will remember the lovely singing voice, beautiful craftwork, and kindhearted nature of Deborah Kennedy (Crary), who passed away suddenly in her apartment on November 14, 2013 in Wilsonville, OR.

Deborah was born June 26, 1948 to the Rev. Judson and Dorthea Crary, the second-youngest of five girls. She grew up in the Olympia and Seattle areas, and was a 1967 graduate of Queen Anne High School in Seattle. As a child, Deborah was fascinated by the tides and loved to explore and discover; she thoroughly enjoyed spending time at the family beach house. In 1968 she was united in marriage to Wallace TerWee, her older sister Judith having already married into Wallace’s family. They moved to Inwood, IA to farm and raise their family – their sons Jason and Matthew were born in Inwood - and they all helped raise livestock and farm grain. She also worked in optometry when they boys were older, and was very active in the 1st Reformed Church. The marriage ended in 1992.

Her skills at painting, wood finishing, and needlework produced lovely pieces that were sold at local craft bazaars. Many of the things she created are also still treasured by her family. She loved to sing in church and knew the harmonies of many hymns by heart. She moved to the Portland Oregon area in 2009 to be nearer to her family.
