Tina was born in New York, New York and grew up in Middle Village Queens with her parents and sister Susan. At the age of 14 she briefly met her future husband, Bernie, at a church event and the two began dating when they were 16 years old. Their first date was an Allman Brothers concert at New York's Madison Square Garden.
Tina attended University of Farmingdale at age 19 to receive an Animal Veterinary Technology Degree and went on to work at a clinic Manhattan. Bernie and Tina got married on May 15th, 1982 and Tina left New York to join Bernie in Miami, Florida and start their new life. They spent their time exploring the city, hanging at the beach and eating chicken wings. Tina attended and graduated from Broward Community College School of Nursing and began working as a floor nurse at a local hospital.
In 1988 their daughter Sarah was born and the three moved to Portland, Oregon for new opportunities and to be closer to family. Tina began working as an operating room nurse at OHSU and the family bought a house in the West Slope neighborhood where Tina lived for 33 years. In the early 90's Tina was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, a disease the greatly changed the trajectory of her life and brought her family closer together to care for her. Tina was known for handling her disability through MS with smiles - she never complained and found joy in simple things like spending time with her family, a drive to the beach, and eating a good meal.
A memorial service for Tina will be held Saturday, March 11, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Pegg, Paxson & Springer Funeral Chapel, 4675 SW Watson Avenue, Beaverton, OR 97005. Following this service, Bernie and Sarah will be hosting friends and family of Tina at Loyal Legion Beaverton from 3pm to 5pm in the side room - all are welcome.
