Ms. Aimee Estelle Bernhardt-Newton of Tigard died on July 26 at the age of 46. Aimee was the daughter of Gary and Tana Bernhardt (nee Carnes). Her mom was a homemaker and the family matriarch, her father is a retired Oroweat Truck Driver and in retirement he was a Beaverton School District Bus Driver. She was born on September 24, 1974, in Portland, OR. She was a homemaker, mother and grandmother early in life. Aimee grew up in Aloha, OR and enjoyed attending church at Village Baptist Church. The family truly believes that she is now spending time with Jesus her Savior.
Aimee is survived by her three children; Rita Bernhardt-Barial (husband Will Barial) of Birmingham, AL, Nina Ibarra (husband Guillermo Ibarra) of Salem, OR, and Jonah Eggers of Oregon City, OR; her life partner, James Barrett who Aimee met on Craigslist seven and a half years ago and adored; her father, Gary Bernhardt of Aloha, OR; her three sisters, Jill Mann, Angela Johnson, and Elisa Marvin; and her three grandchildren, Willow (3 yrs), Emilio (5 yrs), and Diego (2 yrs). With all her heart she loved and was very proud of her grandkids!
Everyone that was close to Aimee knew well that she had a big heart and would always express how much she loved them and that they were always in her thoughts. Aimee enjoyed the simple pleasures of life; music, her pets, and nature especially being in the woods. She loved going to the beach with James and being with him. She enjoyed playing board games and cards with friends. Also a favorite pass time was enjoying a Starbucks Carmel Frappuccino! One of her favorite colors was cobalt blue especially when she would see a car in that color. Aimee had a passion for animals and greatly loved her cat and guinea pigs all of which have all been adopted by her family.
A private family memorial service was held at one of Aimee’s favorite places, the Wilson River. When growing up the family would often go there to swim and play, later in life she would find soothing relief in the cold water. An additional memorial with Aimee’s friends will be held at Cook Park another favorite place of hers.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests sending memorial contributions N.A.M.I. on their website at https://namior.org.
Arrangements entrusted to Pegg, Paxson & Springer Funeral Chapel, 4675 SW Watson Ave, Beaverton, OR 97005, (503) 644-1176.
