Martha Jane Magee, beloved and cherished member of the community, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2024, at the age of 90. Born on February 15, 1934, in Beaumont, Texas, Martha was the daughter of Elby Gus Biddell Sr. and Margaret Smith Biddell Fowler. She was a beacon of love and strength throughout her life, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and kindness.
Growing up in Beaumont and Sour Lake, Texas, Martha attended Dick Dowling High School, where she forged lifelong friendships and cultivated a love for her community in the Golden Triangle. This region held a special place in her heart, and she remained a dedicated resident throughout her life, embracing its culture and spirit.
Martha's faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she found solace and joy as a member of Sabine Tabernacle in Beaumont, Texas. Her love for Christ was a testament throughout her life. Her devotion to her spiritual community was evident in her actions and interactions, as she embodied the principles of compassion, love and service. She dearly loved all of her church family as her own.
A woman of many talents, Martha had a passion for singing and cooking. Her homemade iced tea was unmatched and always a favorite to many. Her melodic voice uplifted those around her, while her culinary creations brought joy to countless gatherings and celebrations. One of her favorite songs she used to sing was, Jesus Never Fails. Whether she was harmonizing with her church choir or preparing a delicious meal for her loved ones, Martha's talents brought light into the lives of those fortunate enough to know her.
Above all, Martha cherished her family. Her love for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, knew no bounds. She supported them throughout their lives in whatever endeavors they pursued with pride and enthusiasm. Her love and devotion was evident and unwavering, and her presence brought love, comfort and joy to their lives.
One very fond memory she and her husband Raymond enjoyed, was a trip they made to Washington, D.C. for their 50th wedding anniversary accompanied by their Grandson, Timothy Skinner who chaperoned them wherever they needed to go safely, including a visit to our Nation’s Capitol.
Martha is survived by her daughters Elizabeth A. Fore and her husband John Fore of China, Martha L. Gray and her husband Terry Gray of Mauriceville; her son Raymond David Magee and his wife Michelle Magee of Liberty; her Grandchildren; Timothy R. Skinner, Steven P. Skinner, Phil Joshua Baker, Sean L. Gray, Tara A. Mann, and Don C. Gray; as well as her great-grandchildren Lana A. Skinner, Ethan A. Skinner, Laneigh A. Mann, Payslee S. Mann, Hunter A. Gray, Bryson L. Gray, Trenton Gray, Abriel N. Baker, Asher Baker, Dixie R. Gray, and Christian D. Gray.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Raymond Jethro Magee, her parents Elby and Margaret Biddell, and her siblings: Myrtle Lee Horn, James Edward Biddell, Sr., Margaret Ellen Biddell, Melba Faye Steele, William Hershel Biddell, George Wellborne Biddell, Bobby Gene Biddell. Their memories will forever be cherished alongside Martha's, as she reunites with them in eternal peace through our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Martha's impact on the lives of those around her was profound, and her memory will be treasured by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Though she may no longer walk among us, her spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us, guiding us with the light of her love. May she rest in peace, knowing that she was deeply loved and will be dearly missed by everyone she knew. May the love she held in her heart for Christ always shine as a beacon of hope, grace, mercy and love, as this was how she patterned her life.
