Marian A Courtney

Marian Aleida Courtney 84, resident of Moreno Valley for 52 years and 6 years in Redlands Calif, passed away Monday June 3rd, 2024. Marian is survived by her sons Roy Courtney of Yucaipa CA and wife Laverne and 5 children, Rodney Courtney of Moreno Valley CA his wife Maggie and 3 children, daughter Sidney Gardner of Colleyville TX and her husband Garth and 2 children also son David Courtney of The Villages Florida his wife Sirena and 2 sons.

Grandchildren, Geoffrey Gardner, Christopher Gardner, Gerard Courtney, Natalie Courtney, Andrea Courtney, Jacob Courtney, Nicholas Courtney, Duane Hadden, Mark Hadden, Aaron Burke, Corey Burke, and Heidi Burke. Brother Roger Puryear and his wife Judy of Pagosa Springs CO; 21 great grandchildren and 1 great, great granddaughter: several cousins, nieces and nephews that loved her very, very much.

Marian was born in Brawley California on October 5th, 1939, second child of Ernest and Fern Puryear. She grew up in Brawley and attended Brawley schools throughout her childhood. During her school years she was very active in many activities. She belonged to Choir, Theatre, Song and Dance as well as Cheerleading. As a young teen Marian also became involved with the International Order of Job’s Daughters. In later years she served as Bethel Guardian of Job’s Daughters Bethel #165 of Sun City. She also served as Chapter Mom for the DeMolay’s during her son David’s term as Master Counselor. She was a lifetime member of the Order of Eastern Star in Moreno Valley. May 21st of 1960 She married her sweetheart (Toby) Roy Charles Courtney. They were married for close to 39 years. Toby passed away in Feb of 1999.

In 1969 Marian returned to School in Moreno Valley and received her HS diploma. She then went on to Cosmetology School where she attended Magnolia Beauty College in Riverside Calif, there she received her license of Cosmetology. She was a Hairstylist for many, many years. She worked at a few salons during her career including, Hemlock Beauty Salon, Beau Monde’s as well as Today’s Headlines. She also offered many hair services at home in her kitchen salon to neighbor friends and family.

Marian enjoyed many things, some of her hobbies included gardening, crocheting, reading, and working crossword puzzles, she also loved board games as well as many types of card games. There wasn’t a game she wouldn’t play, she even loved to play darts with all the boys.

One of her favorite things was she LOVED to cook. She was famous for her Friday night tacos. Taco night was a favorite for many years. Everyone was invited to stop by for a cold drink and a taco. All that knew her knew those tacos well! She liked feeding everybody and trying out new recipes. She had a great collection of cookbooks. She also loved to travel to visit her friends and family. With everyone moving around she got to visit many states, to name a few, Nevada, Colorado, Arizona, South Carolina, Indiana, Georgia, North Carolina, Maryland, Texas, Tennessee, Washington and even Missouri. Most importantly she loved to spend time with her family, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be missed so very much by all!

A chapel service for Marian will be held Tuesday, July 9, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Weaver Mortuary & Crematory, 1177 BEAUMONT AVE, BEAUMONT, CA 92223, followed by a graveside service from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM.
