Known as Betty, Betty Ann, or Bee, she married the love of her life, Fred, on February 10, 1947. In her later years she loved to retell the story of how she met Fred at the Co-op School of Music and Dance in Pomona, owned by her parents, where she was an instructor. They enjoyed 59 years of marriage before Fred’s passing.
Betty’s greatest joy was being a wife to Fred and a mother to Greg and Melissa (aka Missy), as well as being a grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt. She raised her family in Claremont and Upland where she worked as a school secretary for the Upland School District. She was a devout Catholic and was very active in the Altar and Rosary Societies at various parishes including her most recent parish, St. Kateri Takekwitha Catholic Community. Upon retirement, she and Fred moved to Highland Springs Village in Cherry Valley where she made many friends and enjoyed golf, cocktail parties, being involved in the Women’s Club and Ladies Golf Club, and even leading a dance group.
Betty always had a smile on her face, openly expressed the love for her family, and gratitude to God for her many blessings. She had a beautiful life rich with love.
Loved ones preceded in death include her husband Fred, her brother Fred, and her parents, Evelyn and Charles Hodell. She is survived by son Greg and his wife Valerie, daughter Melissa and her husband Scott, 5 grandchildren and 4.5 great-grandchildren.
