William ""Bill"" Huddleston, Sr. passed away on Monday, September 22, 2014 in a local hospital at the age of 80. Bill was born on March 31, 1934 in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Clarence and Ethyl Huddleston. Bill was very active and athletic all of his life. He excelled at baseball in his youth, playing all through high school and in the pros after that. He was playing for the Indianapolis Indians when he was drafted to fight in the Korean War. Though his baseball days were over, Bill took the call to serve his country to heart and he made the United States Army his career, retiring in 1976. Bill was an amazing bowler, the best fishing instructor that a kid could ask for and an avid golfer. He was a loving family man that will be sorely missed.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Kathleen; brother, Robert Huddleston; sister, Dorothy Twiggs and special nephew, Terry Twiggs. Left to cherish his memory are his children and their spouses, William Huddleston, Jr, and wife, Rieko, Lorrie Maurer and husband, Robert, Michael Huddleston, Kristine Gerlich and husband, Jason and Kevin Huddleston and wife, Samantha and grandchildren, Nathan and Alystria Maurer, Christopher and Casey Huddleston, Jonathan and Clayton Gerlich and Andrew, Austin, Alissa and Aidyn Huddleston.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 25, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Navarre Funeral Home in Baytown. A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 26, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Eddie Norris officiating. Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Houston National VA Cemetery.
