Sue Alexander Gillette

Sue Alexander Gillette passed away on Wednesday afternoon, August 13, after a brief illness. A Baytown resident for sixty-two years, Sue was born in Dallas on September 28, 1913. Her parents were Walter Newbold Alexander and France Lane Alexander. After her family moved to Houston, Sue attended and graduated from Kincaid, San Jacinto High School, and Rice Institute. She subsequently worked at the Humble Company, where she met Robert L. Gillette, whom she married in 1941.

Active in civic and social affairs, Sue served as president of the Baytown Service League and as a board member of the Baytown Housing Authority. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was an accomplished duplicate bridge player. Sue and her husband traveled extensively throughout the world for pleasure and Port of Houston Authority business.

She is survived by her husband, Robert L. Gillette, a Baytown attorney for over 50 years, their three children and their spouses, John and Diane Gillette, Michael and LeAnn Gillette, Jane and Bruce Riggs; eight grandchildren, Leigh Heister and her husband Kurt, Stephanie Rogas and her husband, Keith, Robert Riggs, John Riggs, Edward Riggs and his wife, Michelle, Rob Gillette and his wife Anna, Kenneth Gillette, and David Gillette. She is also survived by 7 great grandchildren, Lauren, Stephen and Sarah Rogas, and Meghan, Katherine, Benjamin and Madeline Heister.

The family wishes to thank the numerous caregivers that were so kind to her in her last years, especially Dolly, Margaret, Frances, Shirley and Cecilia.

Visitation will be Friday, August 15, 2008 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Navarre Funeral Home. There will be a memorial mass on Saturday, August 16, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, 800 S. Main, Highlands, TX 77562 preceded by a rosary at 10:30 a.m.
