Martha Bailey Stephenson

Martha Bailey Stephenson, 73, of Baytown, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 27, 2015. Martha was born September 21, 1941, in Trawick, Texas, to Frank and Alma Bailey. She spent most of her childhood in the Nacogdoches area before moving to Baytown where she graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1960. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Baytown and had a special affection for the ladies in her Sunday School class.

She married H. M. Stephenson Jr. in 1965 and together they raised three daughters. Martha loved her family and was a devoted grandmother to their five grandchildren. She cherished spending time with them and spent countless hours cheering them on at sporting and school events and other special occasions in their lives. Martha will be remembered as a loving, sweet and kind person. She was always willing to help those in need with a meal or words of encouragement.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Rosene Wilson and Josene Pierce. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, H.M. Stephenson Jr.; daughters and sons-in-law, Sonja and Stuart Rouse, Carrie and Darryl Fry, and Marsha and Tony Cooling; grandchildren, Kathryn Gerwig and husband Mike, Tyler and Kyle Fry and Taylor and Matthew Cooling; and great grandson, Luke Gerwig.

Her family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 1, 2015, beginning at 1:00 p.m. with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Bill Yowell officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarcrest Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Tony Cooling, Darryl Fry, Stuart Rouse, Tyler Fry, Kyle Fry, Taylor Cooling and Matthew Cooling.
