Martha Elizabeth Hearon Currie

Martha Elizabeth Hearon Currie passed from this life on Saturday, December 2, 2023. She was born in Houston, Texas on September 23, 1926, to Claude and Ruth Norton Hearon. Martha was very proud to tell you that she attended Franklin Elementary, Edison Junior High, and Milby High School, graduating at 16. She attended Mississippi Southern University, University of Houston, and the University of Texas, and held a Bachelor’s degree in Education, a Master’s Degree in History, and a Library Science degree. She taught in several local school districts and worked as a librarian in several local schools and municipal libraries.

Martha married Marvin A. Currie, Jr. (Buddie) in Houston in April, 1946 and they had three children. Buddie and Martha traveled to many places with their family and then with their grandchildren. Martha volunteered her time to many organizations, libraries, and clubs. Never one to be idle for very long, she also enjoyed crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, sewing, crocheting, needlepoint, china painting, leaded glass working, gardening, and, of course, she was always reading. She stayed busy!

Martha is preceded in death by her husband, Marvin A. Currie, Jr. (Buddie), her son, Thomas Claude Currie, her grandson, Adam Thomas Currie, her parents, and her brother, Edward C. Hearon; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mary Lou and Vic Pruitt, and her brother-in-law, Carl Currie; her in-laws, Marvin and Fairy Currie.

She is survived by her daughter, Ruth Currie Heinemeyer and husband, Robert; her son, Marvin Currie, III and wife, Jeani. Her grandchildren, Jon Currie and wife, Katie; James Currie and wife, Valerie; Patricia Currie Maze and husband, Dan; Laura Currie; Christopher Heinemeyer and Christi Murray; Angie Heinemeyer Bowers and husband, Brian; Mark Reed; Matt Reed and wife, Amy. Her great-grandchildren, Sarah Currie, Jon Currie, Jr., Rachel Currie Keith and husband, Ryan, Kyle Currie, Kristen Currie, Hayden Bowers, Emily Bowers, Ryan Bowers, Madeline Reed, Miriam Reed, and Matthew Reed, Jr.; and great-great-granddaughter, Cadence Wilczewski.

She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Amy Currie and Dorothy Hearon; her much loved nieces and nephews, Lou Ellen Currie Wheeler and husband, Larry; Carl Currie, Jr., and wife, Nancy, Brent Currie, Sue Ellen Hearon Blackmon and husband, Steve, Tish Hearon Humphrey and husband, Russell, Becky Pruitt, Chris Pruitt and wife, Terry, and their families.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Jon Currie, James Currie, Chris Heinemeyer, and Matt Reed as well as her great-grandsons, Jon Currie, Jr., Kyle Currie, Ryan Bowers, and Matthew Reed, Jr. Honorary Pallbearers will be Carl Currie, Jr., Brent Currie, Chris Pruitt, Larry Wheeler, Brian Bowers, Steve Blackmon, Russell Humphrey, Dan Maze, and Ryan Keith.

A private family graveside service will be held on Thursday, December 7, 2023, at Cedarcrest Cemetery in Baytown.
