Lundy was a colorful personality, outgoing, and witty. He never met a stranger and with his razor-sharp memory, he never forgot you. He graduated from Kingston High School in 1944 and immediately enlisted in the Navy at seventeen. He became a Sonarman 3/c on the U.S.S. Steinaker, a destroyer. Like so many of the “Greatest Generation,” Lundy was proud of his service. That developed into a long love of history. When WWII ended, he went to college on the G.I. bill and graduated in 1950 from West Virginia University with a B.S. in Geology.
In 1950 Lundy began a very distinguished thirty-year career with the Federal Power Commission in Washington D.C. He became an expert on natural gas pipelines, and as Division Director of Producer Rates and Certificates, testified before Congress several times on natural gas rate cases. He was called upon to emcee a number of special events in his profession over the years because of his special way with people. He retired from the Federal Power Commission and moved to Houston Texas where he became Vice President of Regulatory Affairs for Transcontinental Gas Pipeline Corporation (Transco Energy). After leaving Transco, he became a consultant with the firm of Brown, Williams, Quinn, and Chinn, Inc. until his final retirement.
Also in 1950, Lundy married Rose Claire Millington and the two had a beautiful 67 years together until her death in 2018. Family was always very important to Lundy. He and Rose enjoyed traveling, spending time at their lake house in Pennsylvania, and rooting for their beloved Washington Redskins and the WVU Mountaineers. Together Rose and Lundy supported their daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren in all sorts of activities. “Pa” as Lundy was affectionately known, left a huge impression on them all. He often ended conversations with his grandsons by saying, “be a good guy.”
Lundy is survived by his two daughters and their spouses, Gayle and Tom Boisture of Baytown, Texas and Christine and Scott Trull of Austin, Texas. He has five grandchildren and their spouses, Lindsey and Mark Berg, Morgan and Kent Shields, Garrett and Jessica Boisture, Graham and Susan Trull, and Mason and Elizabeth Trull. He also leaves nine great grandchildren, Farrah, Lyla, Georgia, Flynn, Marlowe, Rue, Kevin, Ronin, and Reeves. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law Richard and Maureen Wright of Fort Myers, Florida, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family wants to thank the staff of Parkway Place Senior Living Facility in Houston, Texas, Home Health Resources, and BlueStar Hospice for their loving care of Lundy. We want to give special thanks to Reverend John Bender with Parkway Place and to Alisa Thompson and his special caregivers Gladys Jeanty, Deborah Hillen, Fanta Fofana, and Yetunde Adeyemo, for their compassionate and loyal care of Lundy.
A private family service will be held in the Chapel at St. Mark’s Methodist Church, Baytown, Texas where he will be inurned beside his wife Rose in the Columbarium. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in his name to St. Mark’s Methodist Church, 3811 N. Main St., Baytown, Texas 77521, or the Wounded Warrior Project at woundedwarriorproject.org.
