He was married on May 19, 1953, to Frankie Carr, who preceded him in death in 2008, after 55 years of marriage. His first child, Debra Belk, as well as his sister and her husband, Bennie May and Elvin Ward, and his brother-in-law, Virgil Bracewell, also preceded him in death.
Louis is survived by two sons, James and John Belk, a daughter, Tricia Belk, and her fiancé, David Schrock. He is also survived by one brother, Bryan Belk and wife, Gracie; two sisters, Louise Bracewell and Juanette Weber, six grandchildren; Ashley, and her husband, Jeremy Barrett, Matthew Belk, Joshua Moon, Lauren Moon, Tabitha Moon, Justin Moon, and one great-granddaughter, Paige Elizabeth Barrett. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones.
A member of the Greatest Generation, Louis was a decorated World War II veteran, having flown 27 missions as a B-17 Waist Gunner with the 8th Air Force, receiving the Distinguished Flying Cross, and several other medals. He worked as a truck driver, roughneck, and superintendent of an oil field service company, before retiring from Lubrizol in 1983.
Louis was a dedicated believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, and a member of the Missouri Street Church of Christ.
The family will receive friends at Earthman Funeral Home, 3919 Garth Road in Baytown on Monday April 10, 2017 from 9:00 to 11:00 am. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 am at the Earthman Funeral Chapel with Melvin Istre officiating.
